AIPPI 2022 World Congress in San Francisco

We are excited to announce the 2022 World Congress and the finale of the 125th Anniversary celebrations in San Francisco from September 10 to 13, 2022.
We will be coming together in person to take part in the making of AIPPI's resolutions. Experts from different countries and regions will be sharing and exchanging insights on various areas of IP. Apart from the signature sessions such as the Pharma panels, IP Lunches, leadership meetings, amongst others, we will be bringing new features to the San Francisco Congress.

AIPPI will be at the INTA annual meeting in Washington, DC. Come and visit us at booth no. 129 in the Exhibition hall to gather information and gadgets of the AIPPI World Congress in 2022 in San Francisco.
Only a few seats remaining for the 125th Anniversary Celebration Conference and Dinner. Join us for this one-day event combining hybrid conference and a celebration evening in prestigious locations in the heart of Brussels, the SQUARE and the VAUDEVILLE.
Virtual attendance is also possible for those that cannot travel to Brussels.
The theme of the day will be IP and Common Welfare with special focus on Health and Environment.

Standing Committee observers – get to know the Standing Committees!
At any time throughout the year, AIPPI members may become an observer of one or more of our Standing Committees. At the end of each calendar year observers are automatically released to keep the list up-to-date, but they may rejoin as observer at any time. Being an observer is a great way to get to know and become involved in committee work!

TPOs and Administrative Nullity Procedures in Brazil: Increasingly frequent attacks to patents and patent applications

In recent years, Brazil has experienced increasingly frequent attacks to patents and patent applications. Third party observations (TPOs) and administrative nullity procedures (ANPs) are available according to the Brazilian patent law and Patent and Trademark Office’s regulations and they have been used widely and effectively against patenting of inventions. The present text brings an updated landscape on TPOs and ANPs in Brazil.
US Patent Holders are Benefiting from Cambodia’s Patent Acceleration Program

In March of 2022, the first patent filed under Cambodia – United-States-Accelerated-Grant-of-Patent-Applications program was granted, according to Cambodia’s Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (“MISTI”). This successful registration is an encouraging development that should serve as a reminder to US patent holders to utilize this recently implemented patent re-registration program.
Restriction of Multi-Multi Claims in Japan

Due to amendments to the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Japanese Patent Act and the Japanese Utility Model Act that came into force on April 1, 2022, multi-multi claims are no longer allowed in patent and utility model applications filed in Japan on or after April 1, 2022. For the sake of brevity, the Patent Law is described below, but the same applies to utility models.
Kosovo Adopts New Laws on Patents, Designs, Semiconductor Topographies

The new patent and industrial design laws entered into force in Kosovo on February 4 and February 5, 2022, respectively, while the new law on the protection of semiconductor topographies entered into force on January 17, 2022.
